BCCI Considering Salary Cap Increase for IPL 2025 Mega Auction

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to increase the salary cap ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Current reports indicate that several franchises have requested the cricket board to increase the number of player retentions for the next three seasons.

Current Retention Norms

As per existing rules, each franchise can retain a maximum of four players during a mega auction, with the salary cap set at Rs. 100 crores. However, this cap is expected to rise.

Requests for Increased Retentions

According to Cricbuzz, several IPL franchises have recommended that the BCCI increase the number of player retentions for the upcoming 2025 mega auction. Some franchises have suggested increasing the retention limit from four to between five and eight players. One franchise even proposed a retention limit of eight players.

Right-to-Match (RTM) Cards

In addition to increasing the number of retentions, some franchises have also requested the use of only Right-to-Match (RTM) cards instead of directly retaining players. This would allow franchises to match the highest bid for their players during the auction.

Proposed Salary Cap Increase

BCCI acting CEO Hemang Amin, who consulted with the CEOs of all franchises, implied that the salary cap might be increased from Rs. 100 crores to a range between Rs. 110 and Rs. 120 crores.

IPL 2024 Recap and Future Plans

The IPL 2024 season recently concluded with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lifting their third title. With a mega auction for the IPL 2025 season expected to take place later this year, the BCCI is anticipated to make a decision on these proposed changes soon.

The potential increase in the salary cap and changes in retention policies could significantly impact team strategies and player dynamics in the upcoming season.(cricket betting app)
