Dale Steyn Steps Down as SRH Bowling Coach Ahead of IPL 2025
Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn will not be continuing as the bowling coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite this change, Steyn will maintain his role with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20, where the franchise has seen remarkable success.
Steyn’s Journey with SRH
Steyn, who was appointed as SRH’s bowling coach before the 2022 season, had to step away from IPL 2024 due to personal reasons. Former New Zealand pacer James Franklin stepped in as his replacement for that season. During his time with SRH, Steyn worked under head coaches Tom Moody and Brian Lara before Daniel Vettori took over for IPL 2024.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Steyn expressed his gratitude to SRH, saying, “A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL, unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025.” He added, “I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20. Two-time winners here in SA20, let’s try make it three in a row.”
Sunrisers Eastern Cape Success
While Steyn’s departure from SRH marks the end of his IPL coaching stint, his contributions to Sunrisers Eastern Cape have been stellar. Under his guidance, the Eastern Cape franchise clinched back-to-back SA20 titles in 2023 and 2024, establishing themselves as a dominant force in the competition.
SRH’s IPL 2024 Journey
Under Daniel Vettori’s leadership, SRH reached their first IPL final since 2018 but fell short of winning the trophy, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Despite the loss, the season marked a positive resurgence for SRH, thanks in part to a strong bowling unit.
SRH’s Retentions Ahead of IPL 2025
As IPL 2025 preparations continue, ESPNcricinfo reported that SRH is set to retain key players Heinrich Klaasen, captain Pat Cummins, and all-rounder Abhishek Sharma for the upcoming mega auction. These moves signal SRH’s focus on building a strong core for another title run in the coming season.
Steyn, meanwhile, looks forward to his continued success in the SA20 as he leads Sunrisers Eastern Cape to chase a historic third consecutive championship.(cricket betting app)
