Letting Go of Buttler – A Tough Call for Samson
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has admitted that parting ways with Jos Buttler ahead of the IPL 2025 auction was one of the toughest decisions he has ever made. Buttler, who played for RR from 2018 to 2024, was the team’s leading run-scorer with 3055 runs in 83 matches, maintaining an impressive average of 41.84 and a strike rate of 147.79.
Despite his contributions, RR opted to retain only six players, leaving Buttler out. He was later signed by Gujarat Titans at the mega auction. Samson, speaking to Jiostar, shared his deep bond with the English batter.
“Jos is more than just a teammate; he is like an elder brother to me. We played together for seven years, built a solid partnership, and shared countless memorable moments. When I became captain in 2021, he was my vice-captain, guiding me through the leadership role,” Samson revealed.
He also expressed his wish to change the IPL rule that requires franchises to release players every three years. “It’s a necessary rule, but personally, it makes you lose the connections and relationships you’ve built over time. Jos was family, and it’s still hard to accept that he won’t be with us.”
Rahul Dravid Returns to RR – A Special Reunion
While Buttler’s departure is a big loss for RR, the return of Rahul Dravid as the team’s coach brings excitement. Dravid was the RR captain when Samson made his IPL debut in 2013 and later served as the team’s mentor.
“Rahul sir spotted me at trials and asked me to play for his team. From that moment to now, where I am the captain and he is returning as the coach, it feels like a full-circle moment. I am extremely grateful to have him back at RR,” Samson shared.
Samson praised Dravid’s work ethic and dedication, recalling their recent interaction at RR’s sports academy in Nagpur. “He was out in the sun from 10 AM to 5 PM, watching, analyzing, and giving feedback to players. His involvement in every detail is what sets him apart. There’s so much to learn from him as a captain.”
Dravid Recovering from Foot Injury
Dravid, who has been actively involved in training, recently suffered a foot injury while playing cricket in Bengaluru. RR confirmed that he is recovering well and will be joining the squad in Jaipur soon.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi – A Rising Star at Just 13
A major talking point for RR this season is the inclusion of 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the squad. The young prodigy has already impressed Samson with his fearless approach.
“I don’t believe in giving advice straight away. I prefer observing how a young player wants to develop his game and supporting him in his way. Vaibhav has shown incredible confidence—he was hitting sixes out of the ground during training. What more can I say?” Samson remarked.
He believes that with the right environment and support, Suryavanshi has the potential to become a future star. “If we keep him in a relaxed and nurturing setup, he might surprise everyone and play for India in the coming years. He looks ready for the IPL and might just deliver some powerful performances.”
As RR gears up for IPL 2025, they face challenges and new opportunities. With Rahul Dravid’s return and young talents like Suryavanshi in the squad, the team is shaping up for an exciting season ahead.(cricket betting app)
