New Head Coach of the Indian Team
Gautam Gambhir has been confirmed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, replacing Rahul Dravid. This announcement was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on July 9, ending the speculation surrounding the position.
Reason for Leaving KKR
Due to his appointment as the head coach of the Indian team, Gambhir will not be able to continue as the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 season. Gambhir re-joined KKR in 2024 and led the team to an IPL title in his first season. However, BCCI’s conflict of interest rules prevent him from holding both positions simultaneously.
Starting a New Journey
Gambhir’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian team will commence with the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. The Indian team will play three T20 International matches and three One Day Internationals, starting on July 27. Gambhir’s coaching term is expected to last until December 31, 2027, spanning over three years.
Major Upcoming Events
During his tenure, Gambhir will lead the Indian team in three major white-ball events: the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 2026 and 2027 T20 World Cups, and the 2027 Cricket World Cup. He will also oversee the team’s campaigns in the 2023-25 and 2025-2027 World Test Championship (WTC) cycles.
Future of KKR
Since Gambhir cannot hold both the India coaching and KKR mentor roles simultaneously, KKR will need to find a new mentor before the IPL 2025 season. This leaves the 2024 champions in search of a suitable replacement.
Gautam Gambhir’s career is taking a significant turn as he steps into the role of India’s head coach, leading the team into a new era. Meanwhile, KKR will seek new leadership to continue their success in the IPL.(cricket betting app)
